Common data-loss situations
The drive is no longer detected
The storage device may be absent from Windows, Disk Management or the computer’s BIOS. This can indicate a connection problem, electronics failure, controller fault or internal damage.
Windows asks to format the device
Formatting should not be accepted when important files are still stored on the drive or card. The message may result from file-system or partition damage.
Files or partitions have disappeared
Deleted files, an inaccessible partition or an empty folder structure may still leave recoverable information on the storage device, provided it has not been overwritten.
The HDD clicks or makes unusual sounds
Repeated clicking, grinding or failure to spin correctly may indicate physical damage. Continuing to power the drive can make the situation worse.
The SSD suddenly disappeared
SSDs do not always fail gradually. A device may stop being detected because of controller, firmware, memory or power problems, even if it showed no earlier warning.
The USB-C or USB connector is broken
A damaged connector may also tear pads and tracks from the circuit board. Pressing or moving the cable can increase the damage.
A memory card stopped working
Cameras and smartphones may report that the card is damaged, unsupported or requires formatting. Remove the card and do not record new material on it.
Windows no longer starts
A boot failure does not always mean that personal data has been lost. Before reinstalling Windows, the drive and important folders should be assessed.
What should you avoid doing?
Well-intentioned attempts can sometimes reduce the chances of a successful recovery. When the files are valuable, avoid the following actions:
- Do not format the drive or memory card, even when Windows, a camera or a smartphone recommends it.
- Do not install Windows on the affected drive. Installation can overwrite structures and files that might otherwise remain recoverable.
- Do not save recovered files back to the same device. New data may overwrite the files you are trying to recover.
- Do not repeatedly scan a failing HDD. Long scans can place additional stress on a mechanically damaged drive.
- Do not keep moving a damaged USB connector. A loose port can become a torn circuit board with damaged pads and tracks.
- Do not open a hard disk drive at home. Dust and accidental contact with internal surfaces can cause additional physical damage.
- Do not rely on random recovery programs without a plan. Software can be useful in selected logical cases, but it is not appropriate for every unstable or physically damaged device.
Logical failure or physical damage?
Data loss can have many causes. A logical failure may involve an accidentally deleted folder, damaged partition, corrupted file system or an operating system that no longer starts. The storage device may still communicate normally with the computer.
Physical or electronic damage can include a failed controller, damaged USB port, unstable memory, clicking HDD, damaged circuit board, liquid exposure or a drive that repeatedly disconnects.
These situations should not be treated in the same way. Running a software scan on a stable device may be reasonable, while running the same scan repeatedly on a failing mechanical drive may be harmful. Initial diagnosis helps determine the safest next step.
How the data recovery process works

A technical copy may be safer than working on the original
When a drive is unstable but still readable, creating a sector-based image or clone may help limit repeated work on the original device. Further analysis can then be performed on the copy rather than repeatedly stressing the same damaged storage medium.
This is particularly important when the drive develops read errors, slows down, disconnects or contains irreplaceable data. The exact procedure always depends on the condition and behaviour of the device.
Photographs and recordings from memory cards
SD and microSD cards are used in digital cameras, smartphones, drones, GoPro cameras and car recorders. They may stop working because of intensive use, sudden power loss, damaged file systems, interrupted recording or physical wear.
If a camera displays a card error or suggests formatting, stop recording immediately. Each new photograph or video may overwrite material that could otherwise be recovered.
This also applies to dash-camera recordings. If an important road, parking or accident recording is missing, remove the card from the camera so that loop recording does not overwrite the relevant period.

Privacy and confidential files
Storage devices may contain private photographs, personal correspondence, financial documents, company information and other confidential material. Data supplied for diagnostics and recovery is handled only to the extent required to perform the service and verify the results.
Before bringing the device, you can explain which folders are most important and whether the files include particularly sensitive personal or business information.
No data recovery can be guaranteed in advance
The chances of recovery depend on the type of device, the nature of the damage, the amount of overwritten data and any previous repair attempts. A drive being visible in the BIOS does not guarantee that its files are healthy. A device being completely undetected does not automatically prove that recovery is impossible.
For this reason, I do not promise a specific result before the storage device has been assessed. I prefer to explain the likely options honestly and say directly when a case requires a different level of specialist equipment.

Should I format a drive when Windows asks me to?
No, not when it contains important data. Disconnect the drive and have it assessed before formatting or saving anything new.
Can files be recovered when Windows no longer starts?
Often this is possible. The problem may involve Windows rather than the files themselves, but the condition of the storage drive should be checked before reinstalling the system.
Can you recover data from an SSD that is not detected?
It depends on the cause. An undetected SSD may have a damaged connector, electronics, controller, firmware or memory. The device must be assessed before the available options are known.
Can photographs be recovered from a formatted SD card?
Sometimes they can, particularly if no new photographs or videos have been saved afterwards. Continued use of the card increases the risk of overwriting.
Can dash-camera recordings be recovered?
Recovery may be possible, but loop recording can quickly overwrite older material. Remove the card from the camera and stop using it as soon as an important recording is found to be missing.
Should I use free recovery software?
It may be useful in selected logical cases involving a stable device. It should not be used blindly on a clicking, unstable or repeatedly disconnecting drive because long scans may increase the risk.
Can I continue using the repaired storage device?
The priority is normally to copy the recovered files to a healthy device. A storage device that has failed or required temporary repair should not automatically be trusted for continued use.
Where will the recovered files be saved?
Recovered files should be copied to another healthy storage device with sufficient capacity. The destination can be agreed after the likely amount of data is known.
Is data recovery always possible?
No. The result depends on physical condition, overwritten sectors, encryption, controller damage and previous attempts. No responsible service can guarantee the result before assessing the device.
Do I need to speak Polish?
No. Communication is available in English by phone, email or text message. Translation applications can also be used when necessary.
Can I bring only the drive or memory card?
Yes. HDDs, SSDs, USB flash drives, SD cards and microSD cards can normally be delivered separately. In some computer-related cases, bringing the complete laptop or device may help with diagnosis.
